Silvia is checking up on Mariano who for some reason (I can't remember now) is all banged up. Paco on the other hand carries a printout with lots of numbers in it - which Lola stole from a blind old lady in a previous episode. The numbers have something to do with Lucas' father Tomas and the Caso de Uriarte.
Mariano tells Silvia that he's planning to surprise Bernarda with a trip to Kikilango in Angola (does this place even exist?) since Bernarda saw it in a National Geographic show and really liked it. Silvia asks Mariano if it is a tourist destination since there is a war going on in Angola. (Pretty funny scene). Mariano tries to show Silvia the travel brochures and finds out that Paco did a switcheroo and they have been replaced by the numbers printout (which Paco has been trying to hide from Internal Affairs).
In the parking garage, Silvia walks in as the car which was supposed to be driven by Lucas' father Tomas the night he was "killed" is being rolled in to be analyzed, per request from Internal Affairs. Lucas gets emotional while Paco becomes indignant.
(Back story: the car was fished out of a river many years ago when Lucas was still a uniformed officer. There were bullet holes and everyone assumed Tomas Fernandez was dead. Being his partner at the time, Paco was with him that night but somehow survived.)
Later on at Cachis, Bernarda is celebrating her birthday party thrown by Mariano. She wants to quickly go to the doctor but Mariano doesn't want her to, so Paco gives her the keys to his car. We see Bernarda walking to the car and pulling out an envelope that says "medical results" and smiling. (This sets the premise that Bernarda could be pregnant with Mariano's baby.) Paco gets an anonymous call which says his car is rigged with a bomb. Before they can get to Bernarda, they hear a loud explosion. Everyone runs out to see the car engulfed in flames. Bernarda has been killed.
Montage of Bernarda (portrayed by the very awesome Neus Asensi) during closing credits.

This was a pretty serious episode to kill off a character and it wasn't near the finale. I liked Bernarda because her and Lola were hilarious together.
I wonder if people were upset that the writers killed off her characer...
